In the northeast coast of US, there is one of the top ten most visited national parks, Acadia National Park. Located in Mount Desert Island in the state of Maine, Acadia has a spectacular combination of forest, rocky costal lines, marshes, swamps, ponds, lakes, mountains, beaches and beautiful villages. When I visited some of the national parks in Utah I was amazed by the spectacular views of the geologic formations, but Acadia was different, it was a special experience where all my senses were permanently stimulated by the environment. The beauty of evergreen trees, maples, pine and oak trees meets with beautiful bridges constructed between 1913 and 1940. In Acadia you can also find a variety of mountains to hike with spectaculars views, especially in Cadillac Mountain, the tallest mountain in the US east coast, where I tried to photograph the sunrise but that day the weather was not favorable. Intense fog and hard winds blocked the view of the coast. Next day we came back during the afternoon and it was worth the trip, so I could make some panoramic shoots. The national park lands are located in Mount Desert Island, the largest island off the coast of Maine. The island is divided in four towns; Mount Desert, Southwest Harbor, Tremont, and Bar Harbor. This means that public lands of the national park and private lands are interconnected and shared. Bar Harbor is the most popular of these towns because of the variety of hotels, stores, seafood restaurants, coffee shops, and it has some of the most visited park attractions. There I had the experience of walking through the sea floor that is uncovered while in low tide, forming a walkable path to Bar Island. But we had to make a safely return from the island before the high tide. I shot a few nice photographs during this walk, despite the cloudy and foggy morning. It got my attention to find roses everywhere, also in the beach, and the smell was incredible. Near the Bass Harbor Lighthouse in the village of Bass Harbor, Tremont, there were beautiful fuchsia roses by the rocks in the cliff, with an intense smell. This landscape was very unique for me, and quite challenging for a special photo I wanted to take. This is the only lighthouse located in the Mount Desert Island, and is accessible by car. Overall, Acadia is great place that was in my bucket list of places to visit, I wish I could visit again. As you’ll know I try to make some interesting shoots during this visit. I got three days to see the park, driving from Bangor every day. Two days where very cloudy, one day cloudy and foggy. But I loved the photographs I took and I want to share them with you. That is my goal with these blogs. |
